An Special Moment

One of the most important moment in my life is my niece's birth, all my family was waiting for that moment. I received a call in the morning and I leaved my job to go to the hospital, It was a relly nice moment, my niece was really similar to my brother, I felt like if she had been my sister the one that I never had. Since that moment my life changed, she is part of my life.

She is one year old her birth was the moment I'd been waiting for. My niece brought happines to my family, tha is the reason why I chose this special moment.

The goonies

I am going to talk about Mike, I like him because is a positive person, he is really intelligent and always have ideas to solve the problems, Mikes likes to encourage his partner to continue with his adventures.
I like him because I thing people should to be positive to make the dreams come true, sometimes things are not easy but if you try hard you could realized it..

The dream with my dead father

It is about a girl who said she had a dream with her dead father, she saw his fathers back and she wanted to go near him but he did not allow her. He told her he was forbidden to hug her so she said, she felt really sad so she asked him who was the person that did not allow him to hug her but he did not answer to her then he told her that the time to see her was over and he had to return so she started to cry and he told her to let him go because if not he would never see her again , he showed her a dark tunnel and at the end there was a little light and it would close if he did not return on time, and he told her he would come back after some time the gild had 2 babies and one day she saw her father in her dreams again, she could see his farce and hug him, he asked her about his grandchildren, he told her he had been always with her, she could introduce them to him and after some time he told her he had to go back and he told her he would never return again but he would always be with her...

Thanksgiving

What is thanksgiving?
It is a holiday to express thankfulness, appreciation and gratitude for family friends and life, celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November.
Who were the pilgrims?
They were a group of people who had sailed from England on the Mayflower and founded the colony market the accasion by feasting with native Americans guests.
What is the Mayflower?
It was a small ship that carried 102 men, women and children in 1620 on its only trip to England.
It did not have privite cabins for each person it was different than it is today.
Who were the Wampanoag?
They were people who arrived to North America before Europeans arrived, and have survived until today.
What happened to the Pilgrims during the first winter?
The first winter was very harsh for them.The cold temperatures and snow interfered
to construct their settlement, only about half survived the first winter.
What did the Wampanoag do for the Pilgrims?
They helped them to survive. They taught them how to hunt, fish and grow corn.
Why did they celebrate the first Thanksgiving?
Because the Pilgrims had a very successful harvest in October and had plenty of food for the upcoming winter.
When is Thanksgiving celebrated now?
The fourth Thursday in November.
What I learned about Thanksgiving?
For me It is the best example we have to learn how to live in harmony with others, we should think in help instead of harm others. It is the only way the world could change.

My first house.

I remember the Christmas that my father and brothers built a little house for me, I was really excited because they did not allow me to see the house until It was built. They lasted a week and when I could see my little house I remember that I played all the day in my house with all my friends and my brother. Today 23 years later I conserve it as a really special gift.

The condemmed.

The condemmed is a action film, the film center on ten convicts who are forced to fight each other to the death as part of an illegal game which is being broadcast to the public.
They are transported to a desert island, they are 10 condemned criminals that are in prision. They are "offered" the opportunity to avoid capital punishment and win back their freedom by fighting to the death in an illegal game to be filmed and broadcastlive over tha internet.

A bomb is placed on the ankle of every contestant, each featuring a 30-hour countdown timer,and a ripcord that will detonate the bomb after a ten second delay. The winner will have the bomb removed and be given their freedom as well as pocket full of cash as the prize.

This film shows crime because the film center on ten convicts that have to kill each others in order to get the freedom, they should to fight, kill and try to safe their lifes.
I chose this film because it is a good example of crime.

Halloween

Halloween is a holiday that is celebrated annually on the night of october 31. It is originated in Ireland, and is celebrated in countries like: Canada, United States, Japan, New Zeland, Ireland among others.
It is celebrated in a variety of ways and activities including "trick-or-tricks", ghost tours, costume parties, watching scary movies.
I do not celebrate halloween, I think that it is because in our country it is not common, but I thing that is a holiday like others we have in Costa Rica and researching about it, it is not as many people think that they celebrate like a tribute to witches, It is just a holiday, and people like to do costume parties, and children ask for candies, it is a holiday like others we have in Costa Rica.

My goals.

My goals while I have been studying english are learn to use in a correct way what I know, try to use the new vocabulary and improve my fluency.

This course helped me improving my fluency, I enjoyed all the activities because I practice talking with different people and doing funny activies. I think that I should practice more what I learn every class, but It is difficult to me because of my job.

I really enjoyed this course because every class was different and the activities helped to improve and use the vocabulary that I allready know but I forget because I do not use it.

I had improve my listening skills listenen to the teacher every class but I know I should to practice more in other to improve my weakness.

News

On Thursday last week, president Laura Chinchilla signed an executive decree declaring a national state of emergency as a result of damage caused by intense storms. If the storms had been less intence, there would not have been any damage.

69 days after becoming trapped half a mile underground, the 33 chilean miners are returned to the surface one by one to be greeted by friends, family and chile´s President Sebastian Piñeda.If there had not been people which could help , they could not have been rescued.

The Agriculture Ministry reported total and partial losses of vegatables on 380 hectares of farmland. If it would not have rained much, there would not have been any losses.

Broken Roads.
Accorging to the National Emergency Commission, 95 sections of highway were closed eight of which are national routes.If Costa Rica had built better hightways, there would not be any damage.

Monte Verde

"A piece of heaven".

This is the phrase that thousands of national and international tourists use after visiting the beautiful area or Monteverde every year.

Monte Verde is located in the north central Costa Rica and is famous for its biodiversity and cloud forest.Monteverde is a famous location for both biologistic and tourist.

The climate in Monteverde is cooler compared to the low lands in CR. There are two seasons: the rainy season and tha dry season. The rainy seasons is from May to the end of October but it can be rainy in others months (which is why the area is so green). The flora and fauna is very diverse.

Things to do in Monteverde.

Monteverde is a popular destination for tours and activities for example: canopy tours, horseback riding,coffee tours. There are so many things to do in Monteverde but Monteverdes fame is due to its spectacular cloud forest.

Transportation to Monteverde.

There are public bus, privite transfer, cars.There are public buses from San jose to Monteverde Three times at day 600am, 2.30pm and 600pm.

In Monteverde you will find a warm reseption by the Tico population. People from Monteverde are typical Costa Ricans. Monteverde is one of the most beautiful places in Costa Rica.

María Andrea Salazar Salas lives in Naranjo, specifically in San Jerónimo, she is 22 years old and she is the third of a family of four siblings.

She is studying English and works in a drug store located in Naranjo, its name is “Farmacia Nelma”. In her free time Andrea likes to practice Biking or walk with some friends in mornings; on weekends she enjoys going out to dance.

María Andrea is a girl who likes “help people” in things she does and she considers that one of characteristics which defines her is that she “respects the other people”, what they think or what they feel about different things. She values a lot respect and confidence in a relationship and humbleness and respect in friends in general.

For her, family is “the most important people in the world” and success means “feel good with yourself”.

Now a days Andrea is pretty young to be married, but she thinks she would like to be married in future, when the right man comes, meanwhile, she is single and she is planning start to study soon, she would like to study physical therapy. When she thinks in future, she sees herself working in her specialization area, with an economic stability and traveling a lot, probably visiting places like Africa or Egypt.

Crazy dream: Andrea has a wish; she wishes she drives a plane, because in her own words “I love the planes”.

Jaco Beach Resort Restaurant

The restaurant located in Jaco Beach Resort is one of the most pleasant and delicious restaurant I had ever visited. What made me feel good there was the environment, you eat surronded of a great view of the sea, the restaurant is located in a second floor and in an open area. This is a buffet style restaurant, you choose what you prefer to eat and drink, for example: for breakfast you can eat fruits, different kinds of bread, and if you prefer typical food they offer ¨ Gallo Pinto¨, ¨Tortillas¨etc. For lunch they prepare different kinds of food like, meats,pasta, soups, rice, salads, beans, and delicious desserts. You also can choose the drink you prefer for example: tea, milk shakes, shakes etc. This is one of the most beautiful Restaurant I had ever visited.

Alexander's Profile.

Alexander Jimenez was born in 1910, he lives in San Ramon.
He is married, the first thing that catched his attention about
his wife was her personality, the positive attitude about life and
her sense of humor, for him in a couple is important to respect the
space of each other and to be respansable.

For him what makes a person interesting is the way as the person talk , he said "It express how you are, if you are a positive or a negative person, and when someone talks show his or her education". His greatest achievement was to get a job in a Bank that he really wanted, because he realized that if he wants something he gets it, although, things are not how they appear, because he thought the job was a little different and then he realized it was not, but he demostrate himself, he could get what he wanted.
One of his negative characteristics is that he does not have patience, but he have learn to have it with her wife.
He likes to practice sport, go to dance and go out with his wife, he said "I really enjoy go to a place with a lot of nature", he likes the huge places where he can enjoy the nature.
His greatest ambition is to travel around the world and visit different places, and he knows that when he really wants something, he gets it.

Rainbow Land

People of Rainbow Land are more like venusians because of their values like love and kidness.

The Rainbow land is really similar to my land because people enjoy and feel really good helping others. I think that if I have to live in the Rainbow Land I would live happy because people are honest and for me the honest is really important in people.
People who lives in Angels Planet like to help when someone has a problem and people from rainbow land are friendly and kind, so I think that if I had a problem I would have someone who gives me help so I think that I can live relly happy in this land.

The Angels planet

The word angel means "messenger." They are stronger than man, but not omnipotent, they are greater than man in knowledge, they are more noble than man.





In the Angels planet everyone is similar to angels, people who provide protection, as well as guidance for others, and also they have always a good message for others.


They like to defend the justice, and help.

People in the angels planet are similar to Venusians because they value love, communication, they enjoy spend time supporting and helping people.They like to express their goodness and love.

The Martians planet is different because they are more interested an objects and things rather than people and feelings, one of the things that make difference is that Martians must achieve these goals by himself instead of ask for help of others when they need it.

Univesal, Cultural and personal behaviors.

There are differences between univesal, cultural and personal behaviors occur in all cultures, I am going to explain some examples.
Univesal .
This week my boss did a meeting and he asked to all the employees to be kind with customers, the most important in his business is the high quality in products and service. He told us the things that make a modern company successful are good management, fast reaction to change and innovate. He said that management and leadership are keys to competitive advantage, so related with the meeting I think that is universal, all people who have a company think about improve and how his or her company can be better.
Cultural.
Last weekend was Mothers Day, in my family we usually visit my grandmother for lunch at about 12:00 md, we used to gave her a gift and share with her all the day, in the afternoon all my family used to stay outside playing something or just talking, it is a way of getting together with my family.
Another example of cultural behavior is that in my family we sometimes invite friends home. On wednesday we invited friends for lunch, before they come, we used to clean the house and garden, we like to make them feel good, we try to be modest, and we asked them before to eat if they like what we prerared for lunch or not, so I think these are examples about cultural behaviors in my family.
Personal.
I think each person has his or her way to eat for me is really important to have different kinds of sauces, during this week I had to share my lunchtime with three partners and I decided to buy mayonnaise to eat with beans but my partners did not want, for this reason I think this is a personal decision what you like to eat, and what you decide to add to your food.
In personal behavior is important to take into acount your personality for example, I am a cheerful person and I like to share and play with children, on Saturday a very sick little girl went to the drugstore where I work and the doctor had to inject her but she accepted just if I stayed with her, so I think she said that because I was kind and I make funny things for her, this is another example of personal behavior.

Cultural behaviors.

This week I learned the importance of linking values to behavior in order to understand where behaviors comes from and why people behave the way they do, to take into account that I should to respect the beliefs of others although I desagree with its.
Some examples that represent the topic are:

This week I talked with a man who had different belief about religion, so he gave his opinion and I listened to him, and I gave him my opinion too, and he listened to me, so it means for me that I should to respect the belief of people although it may seem strange.
The value is the freedom of opinion, it means freedom of opinion and expression.
Another example that I observed was when a youngman helped to cross the street to an elderly with problems to walk.
It show the cultural behavior of kindness, in Costa Rica people like to help others when they need it.

Cultural behaviors.

Hello!

If a person is suffering of culture shock i would say him or her that try to get accustomed with people, is important to investigate the culture of the country, the customs that people have and their beliefs, but you do not have to change your customs or beliefs, it means to know them and try to get accusmes and undestand their behaviour.
So it could be helpful if you study the culture before you go to the country, so you could undestand and respect their behaviour.

Hello.

This course of culture is so interesting, and I am interested to learn many things.Studying language means learn not only pronunciation and grammar, but also customs and traditions so is important to investigate the country and people who speak the language. Our country is visited for people who like our customs they say " I like costarican because they are kind and friendly people" thas one of the most important thing that characterize costarican.But also we have difficult things for foreigners like not to be puntual.
American culture has interesting aspects that we do not have like I wrote before puntuality, but i thing that costarican are kinder than american people and this is for me a really important aspect in a person, but is important to respect every person with his or her customs and beliefs.
If i could change something about costarican culture i would change the the personality of people who cares how people look because I thing we should to respect each other.

Homework week 1

Hello teacher.

In this paragraph i will answer the question of the homework.
what i like of English is to have the opportunity to communicate with a big part of people, and understand them I like cause studying this language you can learn much about culture and different behavior of people. Sometimes is difficult cause the structure is different to spanish and the way to organized the ideas to talk and write is to my language. For me this is my weakest skill the organization to write and talk, but i want to improve this and this will help me to improve.
what i need to improve are my listenig and grammar skills, but making activities in group you have the opportunity to be corrected and i can improve.
For me the most important is practice grammar and be corrected in order to put into practice what i need
